Summary
Jennie has Friday off from school and helps her grandmother prepare for the weekly Jewish celebration of Shabbat. This book follows their day through dinner.
Why I Choose this Book
Jennie and her grandmother spend the day together getting ready for sabbath or Shabbat, the weekly Jewish holiday that celebrates when God rested after creating the world. The two prepare the house and the meal for their entire family. The book highlights a cultural event but also a positive relationship with a grandparent. I resonate with this book for many reasons. I grew up reading this book with my Nana and I still have my copy. I enjoy the illustrations of food being made in the book. I also believe the book does a good job showing what Shabbat dinner is like for a Jewish family.
