Summary

Zhao Di and her friends gather to go outside at night and admire the colors of their paper lanterns. They take part in this tradition until the 15th day of the New Year, when they smash their lanterns.

Why I Choose this Book

The book follows a young girl and her friend through the 15 days of Chinese New Year specifically through the lantern tradition. The girls go out and parade their lanterns which all look different. I choose this book because it gives good insight into a cultural celebration that isn’t widely known. The book also features beautiful illustrations of the lanterns, people and fireworks.
